The Lithuanian government decided to set quotas on foreign workers for members of certain professions, in connection with the intensive growth of labour migration from Ukraine. It is reported portal Delfi.

“We can begin the process of displacement from the labour market our citizens because it is cheaper labor,”— said after the Cabinet meeting the Vice-Chancellor Deividas Matulionis.
According to him, now this issue is most relevant because of the growth in the number of Ukrainian drivers and builders.

So, last year work visas or residence permits on the basis of employment was provided to nearly 34.5 thousand foreigners, of which about 20 thousand — the citizens of Ukraine.
Quotas do not apply to specialists with high qualifications.
The quotas would meet the Ministry of social security and labour, it is also planned to involve experts from the Center for research monitoring and analysis. Specific proposals will be extended until Oct.
