Lunel: a jump in the number of post-parking fines in 2023

Tuesday February 6, during the municipal council, the elected officials of Lunel were able to read the annual report drawn up by the municipal police concerning parking fees, in short the fines drawn up in 2023 and the recourses to which they have given rise by motorists.
In total, some 5,861 post-parking fines (fines for parking beyond the paid period, or lack of payment) were issued for the year 2023, indicated the deputy to the security Stéphane Alibert. The elected official specified that of these 5,861 packages, 310 were the subject of an appeal last year, an increase of 82% compared to 2022.

61 fines canceled

But two other figures from the report made the opposition elected representative RN Julia Plane react: on the one hand 19 appeals highlighted the fact that the opinion payment had been issued before the time indicated on the ticket and on the other hand, 61 post-parking packages were canceled (+ 335 % compared to 2023) because « the user had proof of payment and had paid for the necessary duration. »
Stéphane Alibert provided several explanations for these figures. According to the elected official, the upward trend in the fine has automatically led to more appeals but also more fines (+639 in one year). Furthermore, Mayor Pierre Soujol recognized that « some parking meters experienced malfunctions, before specifying that if the anomaly was recognized « the fine was automatically canceled. »
