In the patio of the reception building, young high school students listen wisely to a teacher who, for the occasion, plays the role of guide for a back-to-school visit. At the private Sainte-Marie vocational high school, the start of the school year was staggered. Priority was given to the final year classes, who were welcomed in the mornings, as were the third year classes. In the afternoon, it was the turn of the first years of CAP to be installed. The number of students is around 600 registered, including 35 students from ULIS (Localized School Inclusion Units).

Trained for personal service

High school and middle school students occupy the two sites at 4 impasse des Récollets and 120 rue Léon Alègre. The new feature for the start of the school year is the launch of a complementary mention which is also called a certificate of specialization relating to home help. This document is adapted to supplement the training offers concerning everything related to helping the elderly. "This will provide qualifying training for young people who have professional prospects in the personal service sector in Bagnols-sur-Cèze and in the Gard Rhodanien region" explains the director of the Sainte-Marie high school Jean-Marc Gucciardi. Such a training offer will also meet the needs of personal assistance.

The defense class is still relevant

The management's ambition is to maintain a high level of success. The average rate for the entire vocational baccalaureate is 85%. For BTS, the success rate is 90 to 95%. A real innovation in terms of training offers. The defense class system will be presented next week at a meeting to which the management of Sainte Marie high school has invited families. “Those who are interested will be able to ask all the questions they want”, declares Jean-Marc Gucciardi. Then we will make a small selection to check the motivation of the young person”, he adds. “The defense class is a one-year project, not a one-month project, repeats Jean-Marc Gucciardi. We cannot afford to have young people who leave us halfway,” he warns. “The defense class is a real label” he indicates. “It's a real marker of know-how. Employers are very fond of this state of mind. We must continue to think about allowing our young people to have relevant and promising training.”
