Lydiie Defos du Rau, head of the Uzès list of possibilities since 2020 (which includes two elected officials, her and Simon Subtil) has just resigned.
" I had the impression that I had a function, that I was useful for something, until I realized that I was no longer the useful idiot of this democracy that I consider sick. Today, I no longer find the energy, and I no longer find myself in the sincerity of this commitment. I had the impression of endorsing a system, more than serving the general interest in the exercise of my mandate, which requires a lot of energy and conviction. We take a lot of beatings, we are mistreated, mocked, discredited. You have to hang on and it’s easier when you feel like you have a use. So I had reached the end of something. I had the impression of no longer being useful, or even counterproductive."

The trigger, a piece of advice « unsustainable » on the PNR

For the elected official, the turning point took place during the municipal council on the Regional Natural Park (PNR), in July 2023, in which she was very invested. A council during which, during a secret ballot, the membership of the City of Uzès to the PNR prefiguration association was refused, putting this project on standby.
"“There has been a lot of manipulation of my political and professional functions. This municipal council, once again a sham democracy, has been unbearable for me. That's when I told myself that I had too much bitterness and passion to exercise this function serenely.”
The fact of not running again was a decision announced to his group before the results of the elections in 2020. “I sat with the idea of ​​keeping the democratic debate alive and showing the hidden side of what is presented to us. But today, the opposition's interventions are still not reported in the minutes of the council meetings."

Despite everything, she says she is not disgusted by politics: "I remain convinced that political commitment is necessary and, if a list were put together in Uzès and I could be useful in one way or another, I would not be against it. But not at the top of the list."

No elected official from the Uzès des Possibles list will sit on the council

The next municipal council will take place this Tuesday, July 2, at 6:30 p.m. The first deliberation concerns precisely the installation of two new municipal councilors from the Uzès list of possibilities, following the resignations by Lydie Defos Du Rau but also by Simon Subtil.
Since no elected official from the Uzès list of possible candidates wished to replace them, the elected officials intended to resign from the list.
" But it’s impossible. Everyone will therefore be seized and will resign, in turn. It’s an act that we take", explains Lydie Defos Du Rau.
There will therefore remain, facing Jean-Luc Chapon, the opposition group of the Uzès list, led by Christophe Cavard (three elected officials).
The mayor believes that "this’is a shame for his voters, they trusted him. For this question of PNR, she leads his entire list". Concerning the retransmission of the opposition's interventions in the minutes of the sessions, he believes that; "we tried, but it never worked… "
