The meeting responds to the call of María Corina Machado, the main opposition figure to the government of Nicolás Maduro, to demand the recognition of candidate Edmundo González Urrutia as president-elect of Venezuela. The organization also denounces the current government's repression against the population.

The lack of transparency regarding the results of the presidential election of July 28 in Venezuela has caused an outcry in the country, where the opposition is demanding a rapid resolution to their allegations of fraud and calling on the Venezuelan diaspora to protest. Toulouse, Marseille, Lyon, Bayonne, Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Lille, Le Havre and Paris are also joining the appeal, which will take place that same day in more than 350 cities around the world.
