In Plaissan, Élodie Gilbert opened Maison de Marguerite, a boutique dedicated to vintage decor. At the same time, he continues to run his Instagram page dedicated to advice…
Above all, she wants to “dust off” the image of the flea market, to democratize a certain vision of refinement. "Art should not be reserved for an elite. Everyone must have access to beauty and quality, it's very important, says Élodie Gilbert, supporting her point with a frank smile. The young woman who shares her “makeover” on Instagram for almost three years, has just taken the plunge by opening “La maison de Marguerite”, her vintage decor and revamped furniture boutique, located in the Distillerie commercial area, in Plaissan.
Refurbish with beauty and quality
A discreet, cozy and warm place where she presents her finds unearthed in flea markets "or on the web", she specifies. On the shelves like on an old refurbished workbench, there are objects at all prices. She wants to include everyone in this project. I don't want to close my door to people who don't have the means…”, she confides. She also exhibits furniture to which she gives new life. A know-how that she makes no secret of in the videos she shares. Sandpaper or brush in hand, we observe it magnifying an old, tired desk, transfigured into a most stylish living room table. The name of her boutique is inherited from one of her beloved grandmothers. His vintage passion is rooted in a family tradition.
A vintage wave
"My parents always had an interest in decoration and the pleasure of finding unusual objects, old tools…", she recalls. In recent years, the vintage wave has echoed this appetite for retro. Logical trend in the age of consumption galore and planned obsolescence. "We need to consume better, more locally, she says. “fast fashion” is not necessarily the best. We can easily rearrange our homes with beautiful and better quality furniture and objects."
It is suggested that this attraction for objects inherited from the past could find its origins in an anxiety-provoking contemporaneity, a patent instability of modern times. Thus, the patina of time would cover these objects with a reassuring balm, as if, by its mere presence, the furniture had the power to transport us to an era as imaginary as it is carefree. She agrees, finds the idea attractive, but notes that in Japan, people are wary of old objects. They are sometimes inhabited by spirits. La Maison de Marguerite, for its part, simply exudes the sweet tranquility of a caring grandmother.
Parcours
Arriving in the Heart of Hérault in 2016, holder of a license in art and antiques trade, élodie Gilbert cut her teeth at the Saint-Ouen flea market for seven years. ;Decorator, artist, craftswoman, trader… by the way, how can I introduce Élodie Gilbert who has so many strings to her bow ? "I'm a bit of a mix of all that… second-hand dealer and consultant in vintage furniture and decoration makeovers." And maybe also, a little, “professor is vintage”… Because makeover workshops are reportedly in the pipeline. In the meantime, the Saint-Pargorian who continues to liven up her Instagram page has opened her decoration boutique in Plaissan. Her boutique, La maison de Marguerite, is located in the Distillerie commercial area, avenue de Clermont. Contact: 06 75 15 49 66. lamaisondemarguerite.contact@gmail.com
