MAP. Heatwave alert in France: 41°C, maximum UV index, warnings… where will it be hottest in the next few hours ?

This weekend of August 10, 2024 will be one of the hottest of the year. In Occitanie from this Saturday, as in Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur, Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, the mercury will hover around 40 °C.

Sixteen departments are on alert. In the coming hours, the mercury will probably reach its first records of the year. In the entire southern half of France, up to 41 °C are expected this weekend. In the northern part, the weather will be heavy, enough to disrupt the Paris marathon. We take stock of this day announced as a record.

Warnings

Sixteen departments are on orange heatwave alert. From the Pyrénées-Orientales to the Var, up along the border, the entire Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, caution is advised.

Météo France announces "maximum temperatures often higher than 35°C along the Garonne, the Rhône. Peaks above 38 °C in Languedoc/Roussillon".

As of this Saturday, it will be 35 °C in Montpellier, 34 °C in Grenoble and Ajaccio, 33 °C in Perpignan, Montélimar and Toulouse, 32 °C in Bordeaux and Lyon or 31 °C in Aurillac, Limoges, and further north to Vichy. Above, temperatures will not exceed 28, or even 29 °C.

Up to 40 °C on Sunday

On Sunday, the mercury will rise further. Expect, in particular, up to 40 °C in the Landes, warns Météo France. Temperatures that will remain high for a long time. It will be even warmer at 7pm than at 4pm.

According to La Chaîne Météo, the perceived temperatures will rise to 44 °C in Biarritz. Only the Channel, in Normandy, will escape the high temperatures.

In the Occitanie region, it will be between 34 °C and 36 °C all afternoon, the same in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. The heatwave will also reach the northern half and the vast majority of departments will see the mercury exceed 30 °C.

These heat peaks will be the beginnings of a particularly hot night, although marked by storms, especially in the east. But the unpredictable nature of this type of bad weather could give some surprises.
