MaPrimeRénov' reduced by the government: what you need to know if you are starting energy renovation work in 2025
|In the presentation of its 2025 budget, the government planned a cut in the MaPrimeRénov' budget, a system that allows owners to benefit from state aid for the energy renovation of their homes.
Changing the heating system, insulating the attic, installing double glazing… These are all the types of work that a homeowner can undertake by applying for MaPrimeRénov', the government's energy renovation assistance scheme.
While Prime Minister Michel Barnier presented his future finance bill to the Council of Ministers on Thursday 10 October, which aims to save €60 billion to reduce the deficit, the scheme is not escaping the cuts.
While MaPrimeRénov' had already been reduced by one billion euros in 2024, as recalled by Libé and Capital, the amount of the envelope for the year 2025 also shows this reduction of one billion.
Collapse of requests
In 2024, the argument used for this cut was the inefficiency highlighted by the executive of the aid system, indicates Libération, particularly when the system was requested for a single work item, for example, the installation of a heat pump. Capital develops, specifying that at the beginning of 2024, the system had been modified in order to favor large-scale renovations, namely those that involve several work actions.
Consequently, at the beginning of the year, requests had dropped drastically, since many owners do not have the means to undertake major energy renovation work, when they could, with a helping hand, go step by step.
Faced with this collapse in requests, access to the system had been relaxed again in May, allowing the return smaller-scale work, known as “monogestes”, such as changing a window, insulating a wall or roof, or removing a fuel cellar.
According to Capital, it could well be that MaPrimeRénov' in 2025, will resemble the tougher version of early 2024, while other details are awaited, the ministries concerned having not yet expressed themselves.
