Masters Tournament: Work to do for Tiger Woods

Masters Tournament: Work to do for Tiger Woods

UPDATE DAY

Present in Augusta for the Masters Tournament, one of his rare appearances on the golf circuit this season, Tiger Woods positioned himself in the middle of the pack with a first round of 74 (+ 2), Thursday.

The five-time event champion will have some work to do on Friday to avoid the ax. When all the golfers have finished their day, the American should be around the 60th rung on 86.

Woods got going on the back nine with consecutive birdies at the 15th and 16th flags. His precise putts allowed him to make up for his early round, where he had committed five bogeys and scored a birdie. The 47-year-old ended his career on a false note with a bogey in 18th.

The series of Masters Tournaments where he survives the ax could be in jeopardy. If he manages to make the weekend rounds, Woods could tie Fred Couples' record of 22 editions.
