The famous “taxi squad” is a game-changer for managers and players. This is the case of Mathieu Perreault, who saw his name be waived on Monday noon.
Interviewed on the show Dave Morissette Live, the Winnipeg Jets forward admitted to being in shock.
“I heard the news this morning on my way to the arena, I’m a little surprised, I didn’t know the salary situation of the Jets.”
With a salary of $ 4.125 million this season, Perreault is aware that his contract puts him in a delicate position.
But would he rather stay in Winnipeg on the reserve squad or be claimed by another formation?
“I am divided. I am in Winnipeg with my family, my children go to school here. But in another sense, it’s a year of contract for me, I could go relaunch my career elsewhere, ”explained the native of Drummondville.
The Jets in the playoffs?
The Canadian division promises to be relieved this season. Only four teams will make the playoffs, but Perreault is confident to see his own come a long way.
“We probably have the best goalie in the league (Connor Hellebuyck) and we added several veterans. Our first two lines can compete with anyone. ”
On the first two lines, the Jets can count on Patrik Laine, but his current situation is causing much ink to flow.
“It’s a situation that arises between the player’s agent and the organization,” concluded Perreault, who ensures that the relationship between Laine and his teammates is intact.
