Montpellier defender Bećir Omeragić was eager to start the Ligue 1 season this Sunday (5pm) at La Mosson against Strasbourg.

Bećir, are you eager to start this season after a long preparation of 6 to 7 weeks ?

As a player, you always look forward to the competition starting. Especially after 6 weeks of preparation. It was tough, we worked hard. So, we only have one thing, it starts. We can't wait.

There is a form of excitement or rather a concern regarding the context of French football, which is still relatively complicated ?

Excitement. We can't wait to get started to show our qualities, to show what we've worked on in prep and to do well, above all.

Do you have the impression that the drop in TV rights is affecting the locker room and weighing a little on people's minds ?

The locker room, no at all, we didn't talk about that once. During the preparation, we didn't hear that once in the locker room. What we have to do is focus on what we have to do on the field. Afterwards, off the field, it's not up to us. So, we let the competent people take care of it.

And you, personally, are you a little worried about French football ?

Personally, no, we know that Ligue 1 is still a very important league in the world of football. We know that it is also a very competitive league. So, I am not worried about that and I think that it will evolve even more in the future.

You are finishing this preparation phase with four defeats and quite a few goals conceded. Is that a cause for concern, precisely, before starting the season??

No, I think that's what preparation matches are for, to look at the things we did wrong so as not to repeat them in the championship. So, on the one hand, it's good that we had a lot of difficulties in the preparation match to correct that for this first match against Strasbourg.

You feel like we need to sort things out a little bit in the defensive sector. Is that a bit of your priority, this start of the season??

Yes, that's for sure. As you said, we conceded a lot of goals. But it's good that we conceded them in the preparation match rather than in the championship. So, it's a good thing that we conceded them there. And we will do what is necessary to take less in this championship.

Have you met the president this week ? What was his speech ?

To honor the club. Especially since it is the club's 50th anniversary this year. So, we must honor those who played here before, those who are still in the club. So, we will do everything to honor this great season of the club's 50th anniversary.

What is the ambition that has set you ?

The ambition is especially now, it is to succeed in this start of the season. To know where we stand. So, especially these first 10-15 games, I will take it game by game. To focus on each match to win as many as possible. And we'll see later, during the season.

You're going to start the season against Strasbourg. Then, you're going to play against Nantes and Auxerre at home. Who are direct opponents. Do you have the impression that this start to the season could condition the rest ?

Yes, of course. As in every competition, in every tournament. For me, the first matches are the most important to start the season.

We need to win more matches to take the public with us too.

Is one of the objectives of the season to reconquer the Mosson a little bit?? You have only won three matches. Did the staff put the emphasis on that, precisely, during the preparation??

I think we all know that we weren't up to par last season at home. So, we have to do better this season. To win a lot more games. We saw in the games last year that when we needed the crowd, they were there with us. So, we need to win more games to take them with us too.

Exactly, how can we try to regain efficiency at home ? And be more sovereign in the game ?

Maybe keep the ball more at times. Because we have the players for that too. We have a lot of qualities in the team. So, I think we can do it so that afterwards we can attack better too, not concede a goal. Stay very stable at the back and concede fewer chances.
