Edge-based, Chromium is a bare browser without plug-ins and services

In December 2018, Microsoft announced plans to “overhaul” your Edge browser. The software giant promised to transfer their offspring to the project open-source Chromium on which Chrome and Opera. Now after this testing period every user of Windows 10 can download Edge browser engine to Chromium. It is also worth noting that the product is still in beta version and may not work correctly.

According to Microsoft’s vision, a new project aimed at creating better web compatibility for customers and less fragmentation for web developers. Experimental version of the browser was released last month and is now available for users of Windows insider.
Microsoft “buries” your browser
Edge-based, Chromium is a “naked” browser without add-ons and services, as for a stable work in beta version it should be as lightweight. So Microsoft stripped Edge of the app store, incognito mode, geolocation, notification, ad blocker, translator online, and other useful options.
According to NetMarketShare, the market share of the browser Edge currently stands at just 4.4%. For comparison, Chrome has managed to capture 65,5% of the market. The next closest competitor is Internet Explorer – only to 9.83%, and from him Microsoft refused 4 years ago.
The new Edge is already available for download on the official website. It is so far only compatible with Windows 10. Later a version for Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, and macOS.
