Millions of French people will have to redo their registration documents in June: how to know if you are affected ?

The obligation for small municipalities to update their entire addressing plan, in order to facilitate the geolocation of all of their homes, will have consequences directly on motorists. It will be their responsibility, if they are affected by a change of address, to update their registration document.

Voted in 2022, the 3DS law (differentiation, decentralization, deconcentration and simplification) was designed to meet the needs of local authorities and above all to simplify their public action.

It requires in particular the creation of a National Address Base (BAN), intended to perfectly geolocate each home, in order to facilitate public but also private services (deliveries, connection to optical fiber, etc.).

In fact, all municipalities with less than 2,000 inhabitants have the obligation to provide this new database by Saturday June 1, 2024, which will be available in open data and reusable by everyone.

All roads must therefore be expressly named and the dwellings numbered if necessary.

Consequently, all motorists affected by these address changes will have to update their registration certificate. This could concern nearly two million registration cards.

How to do it ?

As a reminder, in the event of a change of address, you have one month to update your certificate of registration. #39;registration. This can be quickly done online from the website of the National Agency for Secure Titles (ANTS).

This is a free procedure with a limit of three changes. Then, a new registration card is sent, against the payment of 2.76 euros. For this operation, you must have your gray card, a proof of residence of less than six months and a < ~strong>valid identity document.

Note that this law will also have direct impacts on GPS and navigation applications, thanks to which it should be easier than ever to arrive at the right destination.
