“Minions 2: Once Upon a Time Gru”: Seeing Life in Yellow

Cute, did you say cute? Yes! And with the soundtrack of the 1970s, a karaoke atmosphere floats in the air… 

Gru (voice of Steve Carell in the original version) is exactly 11 three quarters old. His dream is, again and again, to become THE villain, the best of all villains. In fact, when the group of Vicious 6 – Belle Bottom (voice of Taraji P. Henson), Nun-chucks (voice of Lucy Lawless), Strong Hold (voice of Danny Trejo), Jean Clawed (voice of J.C. Van Damme) and Svengeance (voiced by Dolph Lundgren) get rid of Wild Knuckles (voiced by Alan Arkin), one of their members after stealing a prize necklace, Gru decides to go for a selection interview.

But, despite amazing feats for his age – like showering all the patrons of a cinema concession with cheese – he is turned down. His idea? Steal the famous necklace from the group to demonstrate their extraordinary skills. Helped by his indestructible Minions – Kevin, Stuart, Bob and Otto, the frighteningly adorable newcomer – Gru then embarks on an adventure as unbridled as it is fun.

Michelle Yeoh lends her voice, with a humor all the more tasty since the excellent “Everything, everywhere, all at once” was released last March, to a master of kung-fu, a martial art to which she will initiate Kevin, Stuart and Bob with the joyful delirium that you can imagine.

Because everything that made the success of the three “Despicable Me” and the previous “Minions” – which brought in US$3.4 billion at the box office, it should be remembered ? – is present in “Minions 2: Once Upon a Time Gru”, postponed for two years. The wait was worth it, the gags galore, for young and old alike, the touching moments, the action sequences – notably the one in Chinatown, impeccable in color – and the perfect soundtrack – including “You 're No Good', 'Fly Like an Eagle', 'Funkytown', a surprising version of 'Bang, Bang', 'Born to be Alive' and many more – make this new feature a total hit.< /p>
