Mois de juin : pandémie et chaleur extrême

After months of confinement, Quebecers have been entitled to an early summer, sunny and hot, to organize social activities in the open air. The month of June 2020 has been one of the most hot and dry of the last few years.

In Sept-Îles, it was the first time that the thermometer rose above 30 degrees Celsius (without the humidex) in June since 1963.

In Quebec, the mercury rose to over 30 °C six times, a mark never exceeded in 57 years.

And it is necessary to go back nearly 20 years back to find also low rainfall in the cities of Gatineau and Montreal.

This extreme temperature, combined with the end of the confinement, has led many people to visit parks and green spaces, including the attendance is higher than usual.

We compiled the weather data of 67 years to establish a top 5 of the month of June, warmer and drier in eight cities in Quebec.

Champions parks

Quebecers were the champions of the containment during the crisis, before becoming the champions… of parks ! After falling at the height of the pandemic, the level of frequentation of green areas has exploded during the months of may and June, according to data made public by Google for the province as a whole. The Société des établissements de plein air du Québec (Sépaq) reports an occupancy rate that currently exceeds 11% that of the previous year.
