By the end of the year, more than 30,000 employees of the Quebec health network will have been infected with COVID-19.
A situation deemed deplorable by the Federation of Health and Social Services (FSSS-CSN), which has been demanding access to this data for several months.
“It is astounding to note that we are still looking for the cause of this catastrophic toll and that the CNESST is content to assist, claiming its powerlessness, to the meteoric rise in cases, especially since we do not know the seriousness of long-term illness. Now is the time to apply the precautionary principle, that’s all, ”said Judith Huot, vice-president of the FSSS-CSN, in a press release.
In addition to massive screening throughout the health network, the union demanded an audit of air quality in private and public sector facilities.
Representatives also demanded accelerated access to protective equipment, including N-95 masks.
Prime Minister François Legault said Tuesday that 7,411 health workers were currently absent from the network for various reasons.
A lack of personnel which will have direct consequences in this environment during the holiday season.
