A foreign student of 19-year-old native of India buried in the Sainte-Anne river, in the MRC Portneuf, his body having been recovered on Sunday by divers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The victim, Randhana Aman, was missing from 18h on Saturday. Witnesses have told that the man, who resided in Montreal, was located near the shore in the stretch of river passing through the municipality of Saint-Alban.
The four people who were with him have seen him lose a foot on a pebble. It has been seen for the last time while he was sunk in the water, carried away by the current.
The quartet tried unsuccessfully to rescue the missing friend. They have been forced to contact the authorities for thirty minutes after the unfortunate fall. The man was not wearing a floatation jacket and could not swim, according to the witnesses interviewed by the investigators.
Firefighters, paramedics and police officers have spent the better part of the evening of Saturday attempting to find the young man on the river, navigating using boats. The research, however, proved unsuccessful, forcing a second deployment with divers in reinforcements Sunday.
The victim’s body was discovered by divers from the beginning of the research, around 9: 30, near the place where it had been sighted for the last time. His death was recorded on the spot.
An investigation is ongoing to clarify the causes and circumstances of the tragedy.
