A "relief" 15 years later. This Thursday, January 18, a 34-year-old man was arrested and placed in custody after his DNA was mixed up in the case of the murder of Caroline Marcel, a jogger killed in 2008. This Saturday, the Nanterre prosecutor's office announced the indictment and placement in pre-trial detention, reports BFMTV.

"Relieved"

"At the end of his first appearance interrogation on Saturday January 20, he was indicted for the murder of Caroline Marcel, after having remained silent before the investigating magistrate", explains the public prosecutor of Nanterre via press release, relayed by Le Parisien.

Contacted by BFMTV, the parents of the victim, Caroline Marcel, a jogger killed in 2008, say they are "relieved" of this twist in this affair, with our colleagues.

A cold case

The body of the jogger was found in June 2008 by a walker near the town of Olivet located south of the city of Orléans.&nbsp ;It had been discovered partly submerged in the Loiret by a walker.

Caroline Marcel's face showed signs of swelling and blows. She also had wounds on the back of her head and neck. The bra she was wearing had been removed and her t-shirt used by the murderer to get abroad.

The suspect was 18 years old at the time of the incident

The suspect, now 34 years old, was 18 at the time of the incident. He lives in Pamiers in Ariège. Unemployed, he lives together and is the father of a little girl aged 2.

At the time of the events, he was working as a landscaper not far from the city of Orléans. Three years before Caroline Marcel's death, he had been involved in a rape case, ultimately reclassified as sexual assault. ~/p>

Arrested and placed in police custody this Thursday, he denied his involvement in the murder of the jogger.

DNA mixed up

Placed in police custody, the suspect denied his involvement in the murder of the jogger, without explaining the presence of his DNA on the famous key. At the time of the events, he was 18 years old and worked as a landscaper in Orléans, not far from the crime scene.

Today, the 34-year-old man lives in Pamiers, in Ariège and is unemployed. He is known to the police and justice services, having been involved in a case of touching a minor, which did not result in a trial, and convicted in 2009 for sexual assault. The suspect declared during this last trial that he himself had been the victim of an incestuous rape in his childhood, without his accusations being able to be corroborated, reports Le Parisien

Panties and a ring

Besides the key, the daily reveals two other elements that point to the suspect. The latter would have a "certain taste for fetishism" and investigators found at the crime scene, a year after the murder of Caroline Marcel, a backpack containing panties. Finally, the ring that the jogger never left was never found, neither on her remains, nor at her home, while the suspect offered his ex-partner a similar piece of jewelry, which could be the one worn by Caroline Marcel.
