MONTREAL – Fired Monday, the former director general of the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, Nathalie Bondil, insists that the reason is only a pretext to hide irregularities and bad governance of the board of directors of the institution.

Attached to the phone the day after the announcement of her departure, Ms. Bondil, who has headed the museum since 2007, is said to be shocked and surprised by the content of the press release explaining why the board put an abrupt end to his contract, either for an atmosphere of work that was deemed “toxic” by certain employees and its non-co-operation to resolve the situation.

“People are going to think I’m a monster,” said the former executive director and chief curator of the Museum.

“I do not deny the issue of the workplace climate, but I’ve never been the object of complaints for harassment. There has been a problem with an employee in September of last year who complained about having too much work, but it was in the middle of preparing a big project and the pressure was strong on the teams. As soon as we heard of the problem, we reacted […].”

According to Ms. Bondil, the reason for the fire cache to another which would rather his disagreement with the board of directors vis-à-vis the process of selecting a person to help lighten his tasks.

The executive committee – of which she was a member – has been completely ejected from the process, she lamented, claiming that the everything is done behind closed doors with only the members of the board of directors.

“We wanted a transparent process”, she narrated, deploring the fact that the candidate most competent for the position has not been selected.

Ms. Bondil puts in doubt the way to make the board of directors, including its president, Michel de la Chenelière.

“On the 26th of June, he wanted me to renew until 2023 for the proposed new wing Riopelle. On 6 July, he told me: “your contract ends this summer”. I asked why, he told me that it was because there was a breach of confidence [and] “because that you make me picosses”.”

“The executive committee, it is of picosseuses! she launched. The C. A. took over the management of the Museum. We annoys. It can’t work like that. There is a confusion of roles between chairman and ceo.”

At the time of writing these lines, the QMI Agency had not been able to talk to M.de the Chenelière.
