Of the 4,967 light points in Frontignan, more than half of the park is obsolete and will have to be replaced in stages.
523 light points in Frontignan will be changed by February 2025. At Mas de Chave, in the center, to the east of the town and at Frontignan beach for what concerns the first installment of this luminous mission. This was the subject of a deliberation voted on during the last municipal council.
Public lighting represents 41% of a city's electricity consumption
If, to combat the rising cost of energy, the City, like others, had reduced the hours of its public lighting (which led to a drop in consumption by 44% compared to 2022) there are still efforts to be made to limit bills and reduce the impact on the environment. According to Ademe (Environment and Energy Management Agency) public lighting corresponds to 41% of municipal electricity consumption and emits, at the national level, some 670,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
Continue to renovate the urban lighting system
"New technologies allow us today to light less, but to light better, to adapt the light to the spaces and times of the night in order to meet everyone's needs", explained Olivier Laurent, the deputy mayor responsible for ecological transition, risk prevention and the quality of water. air. "Faced with this observation, the city therefore wishes to continue to invest in the renovation of its old public lighting park".
An envelope of 385,000 €
Thus of the 4,967 light points that Frontignan includes, "more than half of the park is obsolete, overconsuming energy and nearly 40% luminaires in service are more than twenty years old". If in the heart of the city, the changes have already been made, we must get on with the rest. And given the volume, it will necessarily be in installments. The first will therefore concern 523 points for an envelope of nearly 385,000 excluding tax. The city's financial partners will be asked to support the city's finances in this operation.
