Negpos looks at the city of Nîmes following the stories of water
|Laurence Charrié explore l'étrangeté des circuits de l'eau.
A collective exhibition presented by the NegPos gallery, the result of long-term work around the city of Nîmes.
With its group Regards sur la ville, the NegPos photo gallery has been carrying out long-term work on Nîmes and its evolution for years, both artistic and documentary. With "Histoire d'eau", the photographers focus on this vital and structuring element, discreet and capricious.
It all starts at the Fontaine gardens, with the photos of Marcelle Boyer, who scrutinizes the details, the reflections, the transparencies, for almost abstract compositions. It suggests the millennial presence of man observing the nourishing source…
"A novel of the future"
Since then, the water paths have taken more modern routes. With his severe black and white panoramas, Fabrice Jurquet explores the hydraulic projects carried out to protect the city from flooding. In these gigantic and strange environments, he seeks "a romance of the future" of a city which reconnects with the monumental constructions of Antiquity.
Water sometimes takes lesser-known paths. Gérard Jeanjean follows his arrival in Nîmes via the Bas-Rhône canal, playing with geometries in a tradition of objectivist photography. This water then ends up in the fields for irrigation. Chantal Auriol scrutinizes the emergence of pipes in the middle of the greenery, curious commas punctuating the shrinking agricultural landscape. Pipes, tubes, valves allow this water to travel, thanks to systems that Laurence Charrié photographs to highlight its strangeness.
Patrice Loubon looks at the forgotten story of "The Girl with the Kid" by Marcel Courbier.
Patrice Loubon takes a step aside. He also turns to the gardens of La Fontaine, to unearth the forgotten story of "The Girl with the Kid”, through a photo taken by his grandfather, a 3D print, the work of Gérard Lattier, archives or the photos of Hervé Collignon during his last mutilation. Admired, Marcel Courbier's sculpture represented a young girl, who had been shorn and executed during the Liberation for collaboration.
