New feat for Brest who strike a major blow in the Champions League by winning in Salzburg

Despite a plethora of chances on their goal, Brest, with a realism worthy of old European veterans, went to win a very precious victory (4-0) against Red Bull Salzburg, Tuesday October 1st, for the 2nd day of the Champions League.

You almost have to pinch yourself to believe it but, with 6 points in two matches, Brest temporarily sits at the top of the C1 before the other matches of the second day and has taken a serious step towards a possible qualification for the play-offs to reach the round of 16.

For Salzburg, who are nevertheless used to the C1, after losing to Prague (3-0) and Brest, the two teams in the fourth pot during the draw, hoping for qualification is now almost mission impossible.

After the non-match in Auxerre (3-0), Eric Roy explained that he was waiting for “answers” and it is not certain that the cold analysis of the match will be entirely positive, as the defense has suffered.

Saved by the VAR and the viewing of the images by the English referee Anthony Taylor, who disallowed an own goal by Julien Le Cardinal (13th), the Finistériens suffered the Salzburg waves.

On the wings, Oscar Gloukh and Amar Dedic tormented Kenny Lala and Massadio Haïdara, while Le Cardinal, associated with Soumaila Coulibaly rather than Brendan Chardonnet in the axis, was very feverish for a good part of the first period.

Mads Bildstrup (10th, 41st), Dedic (17th), Karim Konaté (19th), Gloukh (37th) all had the goal at the end of the foot during the first act, and in the second, Marco Bizot was again at work in front of Gloukh and Daghim (55th) or Dedic from a tight angle (64th), while Le Cardinal, much better from the half-hour mark, intervened in extremis in front of Bobby Clark (58th).

Round back and cool head

In these conditions, we don't know if this third "clean sheet" (match without conceding a goal) of the season is an exploit or a miracle.

But in the end, this somewhat Jesuitical debate will not resist the euphoria created by the once again historic victory of the Ty Zefs.

Because Brest knew how to use almost everything on the counterattack, a sign that, if the team had to keep its back down, it always kept its cool.

In the 24th minute, in two passes, including one of those famous “Champions League passes” from the outside of the foot by Ludovic Ajorque, Abdallah Sima, already the decisive scorer against Sturm Graz, went to deceive Janis Blaswich (1-0).

In the 38th minute, he even missed the 2-0, but he offered himself the double later by taking a shot from Hugo Magnetti poorly pushed back for the 3-0 (70th) and the man of the match trophy.

In the meantime, it was Mahdi Camara, with a perfect cross shot that had widened the gap (2-0, 66th) and five minutes later, a back pass from Mama Baldé allowed Mathias Perreira-Lage to give even more scope to the score for a goal 100% substitutes (4-0, 75th).

At the final whistle, Brest could well exult, but these three goals in nine minutes will not erase the defensive work that will have to be completed before the level of the opponents seriously rises, starting with the reception of Leverkusen for the third day, on October 23.
