Night strikes on several Ukrainian cities, at least two dead in Dnipro

UPDATE DAY

Ukraine suffered overnight Russian missile attacks on Kyiv and several other cities, which killed at least two people and hit a residential building.

According to the municipality of Kyiv, 11 cruise missiles fired from strategic bombers were shot down in the sky of the capital, as well as two drones, without causing any notable victims or destruction.

On the other hand, in Dnipro, a large city in central eastern Ukraine, the Russian attack left two dead, according to Mayor Borys Filatov.

Missiles “again killed civilians in Dnipro. A young woman and a three-year-old child died,” he said on Telegram.

In Uman, a city of some 80,000 inhabitants in the center of the country, a video broadcast by the media Ukrainians shows a gutted apartment building with a lot of rubble on the ground.

“An enemy missile hit a residential building. The information on the victims is being clarified,” said Zoya Vovk, spokesperson for the regional police, on Telegram.

According to regional governor Igor Tabourets, Uman was hit by two cruise missiles, one hitting a residential building and the other a warehouse.

“We have five wounded, they are at the hospital”, he specified on Telegram.

In Kyiv, a power line was cut following the fall of a debris which also damaged the roadway, according to the authorities.< /p>

“No civilian casualties or damage to residential buildings or infrastructure have been reported” in the capital, Kyiv Air Defense Force chief Sergiy Popko was quoted by the administration as saying.

Rare attacks

While Russia regularly bombed Ukrainian cities and infrastructure last winter, massive strikes had become rarer in recent months.

< p>This is the first massive missile attack on the Ukrainian capital since early March.

The Russian strikes carried out during the winter targeted in particular the energy infrastructures, regularly causing massive cuts in electricity and running water. These attacks then involved dozens of missiles.

This Russian tactic did not, however, bring down Kyiv.

The Ukrainian anti-aircraft defense system has been reinforced in recent months by the delivery Western equipment, crucial to the country's war effort. Kyiv notably received the sophisticated American Patriot systems in April.

The Ukrainian capital was the target last week of an attack by 12 Iranian-made drones, eight of which were shot down, without causing any casualties .

Most of the fighting is taking place today in the East for control of the industrial region of Donbass, and in particular in the city of Bakhmout, almost completely destroyed by the clashes.

Ukraine says it has been preparing for months a counter-offensive aimed at repelling Russian forces from the territories they currently occupy in the east and south.
