No more scrunchies and donuts in Palavas: why the mayor banned the sale of food on the beach ?
Every year, the beach attracts many tourists and with them, street traders, sellers of scrunchies and donuts walk the five kilometers of beaches.
Abusive practices, health standards not respected
"It was going well until the start of the season, the town organized an advertising procedure intended to define the area for selling donuts and scrunchies on the beach. Five occupants were authorized to make these sales. But, they started selling ice cream and drinks. The town hall was alerted by tourists and traders that abusive practices were taking place. After intervention by the security services for checks, it was noted that the sellers were not declared and that they were selling ice cream outside health standards. In addition to selling unauthorized products, these people did not respect the rule of conservation and traceability of food products. It was noted that the food suffered a breakdown in the cold chain", indicates the town hall.
The town does everything possible to ensure the tranquility of tourists.
Altercations with tourists
Christian Jeanjean, after bringing these sellers together to remind them of the regulations, noticed altercations with tourists the next day. Consequently, the municipality intervenes to prohibit sales on the beach, put an end to public disorder and enforce health safety. "There is no question of children poisoning themselves with poorly stored perishable foods", he said.
