Raw-dogging is a TikTok trend that involves doing nothing during a flight, sometimes going as far as depriving yourself of food and water or even not getting up, according to the BBC. The practice advocates mindful travel, denying yourself movies, music, or reading to let your thoughts carry you away while staring out the window or straight ahead. It’s a form of meditation, sometimes taken to the extreme.

The term “raw-dogging”, which normally means “sex without a condom”, has been reinterpreted by creators on TikTok to mean “traveling to the state”. raw, without amenities. Some influencers, like British DJ Wudini, view raw-dogging as an inner challenge to test their mental resilience. "I just did a seven-hour flight in “raw dogging”, a personal best", announces- he in a video that went viral on the Chinese platform.
Inspired by a series
The trend originated in the Apple TV+ series Hijack, in which British actor Idris Elba, known for his roles in The Wire and Luther, plays a character who is forced to sit through a seven-hour flight without any distractions after hijackers take over his plane. Inspired by the scene, many travelers have tried it out and shared their stories on social media.

The phenomenon is growing. On TikTok, a woman named Michelle is surprised by the number of passengers practicing "raw-dogging" on the New York to San Francisco flight. "I have never in my life seen so many people doing "raw dogging" on a flight. They literally stare straight ahead for the entire flight,", she says.
But some people are taking the challenge to the point of putting their own health at risk, including by not hydrating. "No water, nothing,", one user wrote in a TikTok video, while another said he flew "eight hours without eating,".
