No pretrial detention for Wissam Ben Yedder accused of sexual assault: account of the case dating back to September 6

Prosecuted for sexual assault while intoxicated, footballer Wissam Ben Yedder will not be held in pre-trial detention until his trial on October 15.
Wissam Ben Yedder, former Monaco striker and without a club since this summer, will not go to prison. Accused in a case of sexual assault while intoxicated, the 34-year-old international avoids pre-trial detention until his trial on October 15.
The facts date back to the night of September 6 to 7. While he admits to the traffic offenses, Ben Yedder denies the sexual assault. Since then, he has been under strict judicial supervision. The Nice prosecutor's office had requested his pretrial detention, in vain. He will therefore appear free on the day of his trial. He had already escaped pretrial detention for another case in which he was indicted for rape in the summer of 2023.
Reminder of the facts
Concerning the most recent case, the facts took place on September 6. The player with 19 caps for the Blues is parked in a car park on the beach of Cap d'Ail, near his home. Alone, he is accompanied by a bottle of whisky and Coca-Cola.
A group of friends recognize him and start talking. In this group, a 23-year-old young woman. After getting to know each other, Ben Yedder suggests that she and a friend get in the car for a ride, as explained in a story revealed by RMC.
From the first exchanges, the young woman notices insistent glances from the former Toulousain (2010-2016). The young man who was accompanying her leaves the vehicle first, leaving her alone with the footballer. The car is parked in an underground car park at that time. Ben Yedder allegedly tried to kiss the young woman and tried to masturbate in front of her, according to the young woman's story.
Psychiatric follow-up since last March
The complainant allegedly managed to leave the vehicle and join her group of friends, before going to file a complaint later.
Wissam Ben Yedder was stopped by the police in the aftermath of the events with a blood alcohol level of 1.52g per liter of blood.
“The alcohol problems that Wissam Ben Yedder could have had are regular and massive”, pleaded his lawyer this Tuesday, September 17. “The shrink who knows him and follows him explains this by depression and very high anxiety. I do not excuse the behavior, but I explain how these events could have taken place”. She adds that the 34-year-old player “began psychiatric treatment last March”.
