A man was sentenced this Wednesday, July 3, 2024, to 15 months in prison, suspended by the Le Mans Court in Sarthe. He had set fire to the restaurant where his wife worked in order to prevent her from seeing a colleague with whom she was having a romantic relationship.

We can speak of a desperate act. When his wife had just filed for divorce, this 34-year-old father learned that her lover was a colleague from the Buffalo Grill where she worked, as told by La Nouvelle République. He then decided to burn down the restaurant to prevent them from seeing each other, and took action on the night of the 29th to the 30th& ;nbsp;June. He then fled.

The fire was quickly brought under control, but the police immediately smelled arson. Guided by the suspicions of the individual's wife, the authorities recognized his car on the surveillance cameras. He was also identified by a witness according to Les Nouvelles L’écho Fléchois.

"A whim"

The accused went himself to the gendarmerie on Monday morning. He was arrested and tried in immediate appearance on Wednesday July 3. His lawyer then stated: "He didn't think, it was a whim. Burning the restaurant was saving his marriage. The Le Mans court finally sentenced him to 15 months in prison, suspended according to Ouest France. The culprit will also have to receive treatment and reimburse the damage caused in the restaurant.
