One more season for Jesper Bratt in New Jersey

The New Jersey Devils and Jesper Bratt were unable to reach a long-term agreement, but they still avoided arbitration on Wednesday under a one-year contract and $5.45 million.

Bratt, 24, will therefore be a restricted free agent in less than a year.

The Swede experienced a real outbreak in 2021-2022. While his personal mark was previously 35 points in a campaign, he has totaled 26 goals and 73 points in 76 games.

The striker's arbitration hearing was scheduled for Wednesday morning. General manager Tom Fitzgerald spoke of a tough negotiation process and that the Devils' plans were indeed to come to a long-term deal with Bratt. It only seems like a postponement.

“We believe Jesper is a key part of our young and exciting core growing together and we will continue to work to keep him in New Jersey for the long term,” he said, according to the team's Twitter account.

Selected in the sixth round in 2016, the left winger had 70 goals and 203 points in 307 National League games, all with the Devils.

The New Jersey club have yet to agree forwards Miles Wood and Fabian Zetterlund in the offseason, who will go before a referee in August .
