Integrated into the new Île de Thau shopping center, the brand new 218 m2 building was inaugurated this Tuesday, May 14. It houses three general practitioners, two nurses and a midwife.
Rainy inauguration, happy inauguration. It was under pouring rain that the Thau Island Health Space was inaugurated this Tuesday, May 14.
A good shower overhead. But sunshine in hearts. The new equipment, which is part of the local health contract launched by the City and the ARS in 2022, brings a welcome medical offer to the neighborhood. It must be said that the premises, with an area of 218 m2, are functional and very aesthetic.
"A huge plus"
They include five consultation rooms, a multi-purpose office, a large waiting room, two WCs and a herbal tea room. And they are home to three general practitioners (Doctors Samir Khellaf, Stefanos Antoniasidis and Wahid Kacem), two nurses (Gisèle Rossi and Katy Delmas), a private midwife (Bérangère Aquila) and a coordinator of the multidisciplinary health center (Justine Cervello), most of whom have been working in the neighborhood for a long time.
Ultimately, a fourth general practitioner or a temporary specialist is hoped. "It’is a huge plus to have premises in the neighborhood", recognize the two nurses and the midwife.
Immediate success
Since the opening of the premises, a little over a month ago, the waiting room has never been empty. "Patients& nbsp;are very respectful of the place", say regulars. "This Space is part of the new dynamic of the neighborhood, which benefits from a large-scale urban renovation program", underlines , for his part, Mayor François Commeinhes, who recalled that the City had invested more than 200,000 euros; in the medical center and offered free rent and utilities for one year.
Waiting for the convenience store and the baker
The opening of the Health Area is an important step forward for the new shopping center on Île de Thau. For the moment, five of the seven shops planned in the new 1 170 m2 building are occupied by a newsagent, a butcher's shop, a pharmacy, a hairdresser and the space medical. It remains to transfer the bakery from the old shopping center, currently in the demolition phase. The transfer is imminent. And above all to find a manager for a convenience store.
The withdrawal of a manager had embarrassed the National Agency for Territorial Cohesion (ANCT), owner of the walls, forced to comply with the request. initiate legal proceedings to recover the premises. The appointment of a new manager is underway and the opening of the mini-market, eagerly awaited by residents, is now hoped for at the end of 2024.
A service center must also eventually integrate the premises. It will include the services of the CCAS, a "City Policy" and social services of the Department (PMI, solidarity branch).
