Operations carried out to expel starlings and mosquitoes in Montpellier, Antigone district
|The Allée du Nouveau Monde has regained a cleaner appearance after a campaign to scare away starlings.
The municipal services have carried out preventive health campaigns to dislodge birds and insects harmful to residents.
While walking along the Allée du Nouveau Monde in recent months, everyone could see the state of the sidewalks or cars damaged by starling droppings. This is no longer the case today.
Indeed, for reasons of public health, the City services carried out a campaign to scare away the population of these birds that had taken up residence on this path during the month of September.
Rockets used to scare away birds
The method is simple: in order to disturb the birds and make them flee, the municipality fired detonating, whistling and crackling rockets. The agents also broadcast predator cries, so that the birds would abandon their roost and reach natural areas outside the city.
Spraying insecticide
Furthermore, on the other side, namely Boulevard d'Antigone, a mosquito control operation took place last week.
At the request of the Occitanie Regional Health Agency, a targeted treatment against the tiger mosquito was carried out around a place frequented by a person suffering from dengue fever, chikungunya or Zika.
This exceptional preventive treatment aimed to avoid a chain of local transmission of these diseases. The intervention consisted of spraying insecticide using a vehicle from the public highway.
