La Gardoise participe, samedi 13 et dimanche 14 avril, à Méjannes-le-Clap, à l’épreuve de la Coupe de France. Une première étape vers les Jeux Paralympiques, si tout roule.

Violaine Harani can't sit still anymore, she can't wait to get on her tandem with her pilot Nina Weill, and take the start of the Handi Gard Classic, in Méjannes- le-Clap, this Saturday April 13.

An impatience that the visually impaired cyclist has been carrying since last season and the victory in Descartes (Indre-et-Loire) in the final of the Coupe de France. Because the Nîmoise was not able to take part in the track season as she had initially planned. Blame it on an old fall in March 2023. "I had after-effects and I had to have an operation in January on the base of my thumb. This was a minimal repair so I could have my season. I have very damaged cartilage and given the pain I will probably need a graft. I also always have pain in my elbow with the nerves which are compressed", explains the ambassador for the blind of France.

She knows the circuit by heart

But with good medical support, she was still able to train more or less normally. "I did a lot of home training and physical preparation sessions four to five times a week. I've ridden less on the road but you have to trust the potential that you've developed over the past three years, assures Violaine Harani, impatient to see what that gives on the tandem.

D’as much as this recovery will be done at home "on a road that I know by heart and that I have mentally visualized from my couch. It's a place where I feel good with a conducive environment". It is in Méjannes-le-Clap that the Handistival of which she is the godmother will take place in June and it is the site of a victory last year.< /p>

A podium is expected

Now recognized as a high-level athlete, she will therefore want to do just as well this season. "We will do our best to leave the convalescence period behind me. The goal is to come close to the podium and be among those who will lead the way. And above all to give everything and have nothing to reproach yourself for, to be challenged until the end and for Nina to be happy with our pair."

This will be their course of action all season, the one that will take them to World Cup events in Belgium in Ostend, from May 5 to 7, to Magnago in Italy from May 17 to 19. ;nbsp;May, then at the French road championship in Pontarlier, on June 8 and 9. And if all goes well at the Paralympic Games.

Nearly 80 athletes expected

The Handi Gard Classic will be contested over two days, with the races in line according to categories on Saturday April 13 from 9 a.m. Sunday April 14, time trials from 9 a.m. then a time trial for all at 2:30 p.m. All these events take place on an 18.5 km circuit between Méjannes-le-Clap, Fons-sur- Lussan and Malataverne. Nearly 80 athletes from France but also Switzerland, the Netherlands and Thailand are expected. "It’It’s a UCI event where points are distributed and there is a World Cup coming soon", underlines Violaine Harani to explain the number of participants, doubled compared to 2023. "The circuit could also host the 2025 French championship", assures the one who is the ambassador of the departmental sports center and para-cycling.
