Camargue: the beautiful parades of the pink flamingos

#Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.It’s mating season for this emblematic bird of the Camargue. The Pont de Gau ornithological park, in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, allows you to approach them without disturbing them. "We count them every week, by looking at their ring with binoculars or a spyglass", explains a park official. Data sent to the Tour du Valat database to monitor their evolution. Around 2,000 pink flamingos land at Pont-de-Gau every day "with a turnover of 80% every 48 hours but also old regulars, who have been returning to breed here since 1977!" A nice “merry-go-round” which will continue until spring. 

The supplication, treasure of Espace Brassens

#Sète. Seven minutes to sing about his love of the Singular Island and his wish to end his days under the sand of the Corniche. The “Plea to be buried at Sète beach” acts as a sort of testament for Georges Brassens. The petition is carefully preserved in Sète in the form of two manuscripts. The first, witness to the song under construction, was given in 1985 and is currently at Espace Brassens. The second is part of the museum's hidden treasures and was deposited by Georges Brassens himself in 1966, the year the record was released. This manuscript presents an already advanced version of the song. It bears the trace of additions of words which will help to bring the supplication up to the ironic duration of seven minutes. We thus discover that the title was once “Begging to be buried in Sète”, or that the genius lyricist could be fumbling over the use of this or that word. Extremely fragile, the document is only shown intermittently, and preserved in specific climatic conditions.

#Gard.This is in kilometers the distance covered, on foot, by Stephan Llorca. The young 35-year-old from Bagnolais, former manager of a press store in Pont-Saint-Esprit, left Sabran on May 29 to "find a certain freedom" thanks to his tour of France. He has since walked at a pace of 25 kilometers per day. Stephan Llorca, who sleeps with locals, is currently in Brittany and plans to return to the Rhone Gard at the end of October 2024. Come on, only 6,300 kilometers left…

The funfair in mourning

#Alès.The message was broadcast on social networks this Saturday and announced the closure of the funfair in Alès this weekend. The attractions of the fairgrounds on avenue Jules-Guesde will therefore remain at a standstill as a sign of solidarity with the family victims of the traffic accident which occurred during the night from Friday to Saturday in Saint- Martin-de-Valgégales. A 36-year-old woman was killed in a collision between two vehicles. A passenger was seriously injured. Occupants of the second vehicle were also injured.

The Grands Causses PNR is expanding

#Larzac. 119 member municipalities, eight communities of municipalities, two departments and the Region… the perimeter of the Grands Regional Natural Park Causses will soon include 26 Hérault municipalities. This is part of the new features of the charter, worked on for 5 years by the PNR teams. Larzac, up to the shores of Lake Salagou, will be part of it. The project, validated locally, awaits the signature of the Prime Minister. Thanks to this expansion of the scope, the Hérault municipalities will be supported by the mixed union in the same way as the Aveyron residents on various points such as the energy transition, the open nature center, or even economic development.
