The French team became Paralympic blind football champions for the first time in their history by beating Argentina after a penalty shootout (1-1, 3-2 on penalties), Saturday, September 7 at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, during the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Les Bleus became Paralympic champions for the first time after their silver medal at the London Games in 2012.

Toussaint Akpweh's men beat the Argentinian favorites thanks to a victory obtained after a penalty shootout, Saturday evening at the foot of the tower Eiffel.

Villeroux decisive again

Captain Frédéric Villeroux scored the third winning penalty to crown the French team, while French goalkeeper Alessandro Bartolomucci made a save just before.

The French had opened the scoring through Villeroux, again, before conceding a goal in the process. The Argentinians, who beat Brazil in the semi-finals, who had never lost in a Paralympic tournament since the advent of blind football in 2004, won silver after becoming world champions in 2023.
