Paris 2024 Olympic Games: from Hérault to the urban Olympic park in FISE mode, the dream of young Lunellois invited by the Region

On the Place de la Concorde, a day in the form of a waking dream for these teenagers in a very “FISE” atmosphere. An urban sports park, in the heart of Paris, which successfully challenges the codes.
"For French basketball players, make some noise!!!" The decibels bounce on the immense white marquee that looks like a merry-go-round to envelop the upcoming exploits of the 3×3 tricolor team. A dense and heterogeneous crowd does not miss a bit of the warm-up of the other teams to come.
The ticket for a session in this urban park does not give access to the competitions but a stroll in the form of zapping from the skaters' training to a mini-BMX show or a breakdance demo. We came as a family, on the way, even if we had to queue and wait for over an hour to get there.
From hieroglyphics to sliding heroes
Transforming the Place de la Concorde into a temple of urban sports: the risky bet is as successful as the marriage of genres. In the shadow of the nearby National Assembly, the majesty of the place marries these gesticulations with carnival overtones like a pagan and secular festival. All that's missing are a few fire breathers…

Unperturbed, the obelisk passes without blinking from hieroglyphs to sliding heroes, as if riders and breakdancers had been pounding the pavement of the square for centuries. A touch of the FiSE (International Extreme Sports Festival) in Paris? This is normal since the organizers of the famous Montpellier festival took charge of most of the implementation of the urban park via their Hérault company Hurricane, which specializes in designing structures of this type.
“We can say that we came to the Games”
Around the central monument, a few dozen young people from Hérault and Haute-Garonne, invited by the Occitanie Region. Exhausted but happy like these young footballers from US Lunel who were able to tread the basketball playground dedicated to short matches for a few minutes.

"I loved basketball, smiles Maël. It was a nice moment, it also allowed us to discover other sports and to be able to say that we came to the Olympics."< /em>
"I also really liked the tour of the monuments that we did in the morning, supports Yassine . The Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, the National Assembly… But the basketball atmosphere was great."
"Days like these are all good"
“We have been long-standing partners with local authorities for these actions as part of a city contract”, explains Rafik Lahrychy, a salaried educator at the club of 250 members. “We try to organize fun, educational activities and outings that make them responsible. Days like this are all good because some don't go on vacation and others often go to the same place. Discovering urban sports appealed to them…"

“We knew that the principle of zapping in the park would please them when we launched this call for projects with associations and clubs”, underlines Marie-Alice Pelé, vice-president of the Region in charge of urban policy, who does not hesitate to speak out with teenagers.
The continuation of a series of actions around the Games for the Region which also brought young footballers for a match of the Blues in Bordeaux and members of the boxing clubs of Benama and Oumiha to encourage their idols.
The imminence of the return by bus, at night, is a bit like a return to earth. But the last look embracing in the same axis the Arc de Triomphe, the Obelisk and the sphere of the Olympic flame, is surely similar to an alignment of the planets.
