Paris 2024 Olympics: Lauriane Nolot rings the alarm bell for the Blues in Marseille during the sailing events

The kite-foil world champion lived up to her position by taking the lead on Sunday, August 4. In her wake, the other French team got closer to the podium.

This is the energy boost that the French team needed to get going again after a gloomy Saturday. It could only come from Lauriane Nolot who was impatient to start the competition after seeing all her friends go to sea.

The two-time reigning kite-foil world champion didn't miss a beat in her debut with the competition, with a win, two second places and a 12th place due to a crash. But she leads overall with the worst run removed. “All I need at the end of the day is to be in the lead. I tell myself that tomorrow, I'm going to wear the yellow leader's lycra and it suits me well", rejoiced the 26-year-old from Var.

The other French in ambush

And yet like the other athletes, she had to wait a long time on the water before being able to race due to a wind that was still as capricious on the Marseille waters. A Mistral that was less strong than the day before and that the French were able to tame more than the day before since the overall results were better.

If they are not on the podium like their compatriot in kite-foil, the Tricolores are lying in wait in the ranking. Like Camille Lecointre and Jérémie Mion in mixed double dinghy who occupy 5th place. “I think the podium is achievable. We just have to continue to stay in our line of march”, assured the teammate.

It's over for Bernaz

We'll have to do a little more to get closer to the box for Louise Cervera 7th in the ILCA 6 (solo dinghy) ranking one day before the Medal race. Same place for Axel Mazella in kite-foil for his entry into the competition. Lou Berthomieu and Tim Mourniac in Nacra 17 (foil catamaran) also in seventh place after two days of racing will have to progress in a very regulated hierarchy.

On the other hand, it is the end of hopes for Jean-Baptiste Bernaz, 12th overall, who will never have a medal at the Games despite five participations in IlCA 7 (solo dinghy).
