Ce dimanche 4 août, les fleurettistes français sont allés chercher la médaille de bronze en battant les États-Unis, trois ans après avoir décroché l’or à Tokyo.
French fencing did not perform as expected in its Olympic Games. But after many disappointments, it ended on a high note with the bronze medal for the foil fencers. The team, made up of Enzo Lefort, Maxime Pauty, Maximilien Chastanet and Julien Mertine, crushed the United States in the small final (45-32).
Pauty's last touch freed the French clan, under the eyes of a certain Lewis Hamilton, a luxury spectator at the Grand Palais.

Record of medals
With this third medal of the day (after the bronze of Félix Lebrun and the men's 4x100m swimming relay), the French delegation beats its absolute record for medals at the Olympic Games. The record dated from Beijing in 2008 (43). It has risen to 44.
