Chinese actor and martial artist Jackie Chan will carry the Paralympic flame in Paris on Wednesday, along with Elsa Zylberstein, Jarry and Benjamin Millepied, a French actress, comedian and choreographer, the Games Organizing Committee announced on Sunday.

Jackie Chan will take over at 5 p.m. on 27 Rue Vieille du Temple in the 4th arrondissement, a few hours before the Paralympic Games opening ceremony at 8 p.m. from the Champs-Élysées to Place de la Concorde.

Other names have been announced, such as astronaut Jean-François Clervoy, Solidays boss Luc Barruet, rapper Georgio and cycling veteran Raymond Pellé.

Many Paralympic athletes will be taking turns, including Yannick Ifebe (wheelchair fencing), Clavel Kayitare (disabled athletics), Marie Graftiaux, John Petersson and Duane Kale (para swimming).

“Inscribing sport in the hearts of people with disabilities”

The Paralympic flame arrived in France on Sunday via the Channel Tunnel, carried by Emmanuelle Assmann, medalist in wheelchair fencing, who was welcomed upon her arrival by the French Minister of Sports and Games Amélie Oudéa-Castéra.

With the flame attached to her chair, Emmanuelle Assmann was greeted by a guard of honour formed by members of the Organising Committee and children wearing white volunteer t-shirts.

“It's about putting sport in the hearts of people with disabilities”, declared Ms Oudéa-Castéra a few moments before the flame arrived.

A visit to Rock en Seine

In addition to the minister and the head of the Committee Tony Estanguet, a hundred people were present, including fifty elected officials and volunteers.

The handover of the flame between British and French bearers took place in the middle of the tunnel at around 12:20 p.m., we learned from a communications manager for the infrastructure.

One of the flames will pass on Sunday at around 9:30 p.m. through the Rock en Seine music festival, on the outskirts of Paris, in the hands of para-athlete Hélios Latchoumanaya (judo), Franco-Iranian cartoonist Marjane Satrapi and DJ Barbara Butch, victim of cyberbullying after her participation in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games on July 26.

These twelve relays will converge on Paris where the flame will arrive on Wednesday for the opening ceremony. It was lit on Saturday in Stoke Mandeville (Great Britain), the historic birthplace of the Paralympic Games.
