Paris Olympic Games Opening Ceremony: A “Reparation” Mass Scheduled at Nîmes Cathedral

The diocese of Nîmes released this Tuesday, July 30, a message from Mgr Nicolas Brouwet, Bishop of Nîmes, who speaks of offense concerning the representation of “a parody of the Last Supper” during the ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games on Friday, July 26.

The Bishop of Nîmes speaks "of a real offense to the Lord in Paris during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games by the representation of & rsquo;a parody of the Last Supper. These games which unite so many nations in the search for surpassing physical abilities and team spirit – faster, higher, stronger, together – have been manipulated to outrage Christian faith in one of these greatest mysteries: the gift that Christ makes of himself in his Eucharist. As from this Sunday we read the discourse on the Bread of Life, we want to reiterate our attachment to Christ of whom we are the free, joyful and proud disciplines.

Bishop Brouwet asks priests to celebrate a Mass of reparation and "to offer a holy hour before the Blessed Sacrament to parish communities and religious communities" . The Bishop of Nîmes will celebrate Mass and preside over Holy Hour on Saturday August 3 at 9 a.m. at Nîmes Cathedral.
