A Ryanair Boeing 737 plane had its four rear tires burst while landing in Italy on October 1, 2024.
This Tuesday, October 1, a new incident with a Boeing 737 immobilized Orio al Serio airport located in Bergamo, Italy, for almost a whole day.
The pilot managed to keep the plane on the runway
An hour after taking off from Barcelona, the Boeing of Ryanair flight FR 846, which was due to land on the runway at Bergamo airport, had its tires burst as the aircraft was landing, reports Corriere della Sera.
At 7:55 a.m., the pilots first heard a noise at the rear on the left side, then others on the right side. With the explosion, the right tires came off while the left tires deflated, Italian media reports.
A first reconstruction of the incident showed that the four rear tires of the plane had exploded on landing but the pilot was able to keep the plane on the runway, which was still rendered unusable for 450 meters.
The airport reopened in the evening
The firefighters intervened shortly after landing to evacuate the 161 passengers and crew members. According to Sacbo, the airport operator, there were no injuries.
The incident led to the cancellation and diversion of all flights scheduled to enter the Italian airport while the roadway restoration work was completed.
It was only at 7:30 p.m. that technicians announced the reopening of the site.
