Pour Octobre rose, l’association Croq’La Vie propose 17 rendez-vous dans le Sud-Aveyron.
Founded in 2001, the Sainte-Affricain association Croq’La Vie proposes, as part of Pink October, events throughout Saint-Affricain around this new breast cancer awareness campaign launched in 1994.
Laurence Michelutti, its president, notes: “Less than 50% of women get screened (nationally, Aveyron is far from shining) even though it is free and without any advance payment. This mobilization is an opportunity to highlight the importance of screening for female cancers, breast and uterine. The earlier the cancer is detected, the greater the chances of recovery. The challenge is to get women to join, which is why women and I created this association".
At the Saint-Affrique hospital
"To get screened, nothing could be simpler, just make an appointment by phone, on site or on the doctolib website at the radiology center at the Saint-Affrique hospital for a mammogram with two readings and an ultrasound and what's more it's quick" specifies Chantal Brengues, administrator of the association and reference in Saint-Affrique. Beyond encouraging screening, our association organizes support in the form of listening, both for patients and for those accompanying them, here and in Millau".
Christine Trinquier, vice-president, adds: "Once the disease is taken care of by the cancer center, suddenly they tell you, it's over, go home. We collapse while for those around us the disease is over. At that time, the Croq’La Vie association was vital because having someone on site to talk about everything and nothing, about life in fact, proved to be a great asset ".
Seventeen meetings throughout Saint-Affricain
Project leader between the national operation and the association, Florence Privat is delighted: "Until now, the association has organized a walk and a lottery. This year, we are expanding our program and are offering seventeen events throughout Saint-Affricain, eleven concerts, a walk, a lottery, dancing, a health café… and even a fashion show! All our projects have received a warm welcome from the elected officials of the municipalities concerned. We also have the support of the Saint-Affrique town hall, the traders (12,000 euros worth of lottery prizes). As for the entrance fees, it is free except for two concerts”. An exceptional pink October.
