In this new episode of Incroyables destins, Catherine Unac tells you the unsolved enigma of the paintings stolen from the Bagnols-sur-Cèze museum in the Gard. 

Between November 11 and 13, 1972, fifteen masterpieces were stolen from the Bagnols-sur-Cèze museum. They were never found.

A hole in the ceiling and a rope ladder hanging down. Traces of paintings on the wall and frames on the floor. This is what Mr. Robert the caretaker discovers with amazement at 2 p.m. on November 13, when he turns the key in the museum door. Fifteen paintings are missing, and not the least of them: two Renoirs, a Monet, a Cézanne, a Dufy, two Bonnards, a Pissaro…

The thieves have pillaged the Impressionists' room, which houses the most beautiful works. They have not entered the Besson room, which contains nearly 90 paintings, and have not touched the realist paintings of Albert-André, whose name the museum bears and of which he was the curator…
