Polaris prize: Two Quebecois, but not of franco, in the short list

Prix Polaris: Deux Québécois, mais pas de franco, dans la courte liste

For the first time since 2017, none of the francophone artist has arrived to carve out a place on the short list for the Polaris prize, which awards the best canadian album of the last year.

After being rat holed in the long list of 40 albums released in the past month, Marie-Pierre Arthur, Corridor, Louis-Jean Cormier, le P’tit Belliveau, Chocolate and Zen Bamboo were not able to mimic The Praises (2019) and Hubert Lenoir (2018) and reach the ultimate stage of the Polaris prize.

The rapper québec Backxwash

Two artists in English-speaking quebecers are among the ten finalists. Four years after he scooped the prize with his album, Kaytranada will be able to re-offend, with his most recent, Bubba, while the rapper transgender Backxwash place God Has Nothing To Do With This Leave Him Out Of It in the short list.

Also Kaytranada, Caribou, and Lida Pimienta aims a second Polaris prize.
