The mayor of Quebec and the head of the Police Department of Quebec City (SPVQ) united their voices on Sunday to condemn the brutal arrest of young black teenagers in Quebec on Saturday.
Two videos of the event circulated on social networks showing police officers taking repressive acts against young people, handcuffed and pinned to the ground in front of a bar.
“We want the light to be shed quickly on this situation,” said Mayor Bruno Marchand.
The latter wanted to send a thought to those affected by this incident and all those who live in the area. fear since the events.
“It makes us aware of a reality to which we are rarely exposed in Quebec,” explained the mayor of the provincial capital.
“We deeply want to ensure that for all respect, this value and motto, can be lived and felt on a daily basis for all our citizens,” he added.
Bruno Marchand also wanted to show his support for the police officers who are currently facing the judgment and remarks of several citizens.
“I will never tolerate any discrimination or violation of the rights that govern us. On the other hand, I reiterate all my confidence in the police officers of the City of Quebec, ”he declared.
“We are committed to making our city an environment where true and fundamental coexistence reigns,” added the mayor of Quebec.
< p> The SPVQ announced Saturday evening that it has opened a rigorous internal investigation to shed light on this event.
“I personally commit myself to ensuring that the investigation is carried out smoothly. I want to have some clarification on what happened that evening, ”said Denis Turcotte, head of the SPVQ.
The latter, however, indicated that it was too early to announce whether sanctions would be imposed on the police officers involved in the incident. However, he assures us that a decision will be taken quickly.
