Speed is in the police's sights, and they have carried out numerous checks in recent days. “Since mid-July, the interdepartmental directorate of the national police (DIPN) has been increasing the number of road checks, particularly in Nîmes and Alès, in order to effectively combat road insecurity. Emphasis is placed on radar checks, carried out in several accident-prone areas such as Avenue Kennedy, Avenue Dayan and the Route d'Avignon, limited to 50 km/h and the RN 106 limited to 90 km/h”, specifies the DIPN's communications department. “Via the on-board automatic radar, nearly 2,000 vehicles were checked with a result of 418 drivers in violation, including 15 speeds recorded between 40 and 50 km/h and 5 over 50 km/h above the speed limit, including one at 183 km/h on a section limited to 90 km/h. Concerning road checks with interception, 314 drivers were intercepted and more than half were found to be in violation with 18 offenses and 185 fines recorded”, adds the press release from the Gard police.
