Police arrest an armed man in the Colombier d'Alès park

The man, of Polish origin, did not offer any resistance to the police.

The alarm was given by a witness around 11 a.m. A man in possession of a weapon would be sitting on a bench if not for the Parc du Colombier. 

A national police crew urgently went to the site, soon joined by two patrols from the Alès municipal police. Officers secure the area, while national officials approach the suspicious individual.

As they progress, the police calmly evacuate the walkers in the park. 

The suspect is spotted. He is actually sitting on a bench and does not move. The man does not seem to understand French very well.

A police officer approaches, taser in hand. The suspect is gently arrested by the police who handcuff him. It offers no resistance. 

When he was searched, the police discovered a weapon at the waist level under the individual's sweater. According to a source close to the investigation, the weapon would be quite similar to the service weapon of the police and gendarmes. 

Placed in police custody, it turns out that the man is of Polish nationality. He is drunk. For the moment, the reasons for his presence in the Colombier park, with a weapon, have not yet given rise to explanations. 

According to initial findings, the pistol would be a pellet weapon. Auditions are underway. The investigation continues under the authority of the Alès public prosecutor's office
