The Hérault Prefecture and Atmo Occitanie have just issued an alert on outdoor air quality in anticipation of an episode of pollution for the day of Thursday February 8 .
The prefecture of Hérault and Atmo Occitanie issued a pollution alert on the quality of outdoor air this Thursday. The weather conditions of recent days have limited the dispersion of pollutants emitted into the air and in particular PM10 particles.
Stable air mass without wind
The combination of a stable air mass without wind, low temperatures at the start of the day and a low mixing layer height leads to an accumulation of particles emitted by human activities, indicates the Prefecture.
It is therefore recommended that vulnerable people avoid the areas around roads and intense physical activities.
How to reduce pollutant emissions
Postpone maintenance or cleaning work requiring the use of solvents, paints, varnishes. Respect the ban on open burning and the framework for exemptions. During heating periods, stop using non-efficient biomass combustion devices (open fireplaces, stoves purchased before 2002). Control the temperature in buildings (heating or air conditioning).
Limit travel
Limit, for private and professional travel, the use of motor vehicles by using carpooling and public transport. For short journeys, choose non-polluting modes of travel (walking, cycling). Postpone, if possible, any trips that may be necessary.
