The head of the american diplomacy has threatened Beijing’s new retaliation, lamenting “a sad day” for Hong Kong after the adoption by China of a new law on national security.
“Today is a sad day for Hong Kong, and for all the lovers of liberty in China”, denounced the secretary of State in a press release.
“The United States will not remain idly by while China swallowed Hong Kong in his mouth and authoritarian”, he thundered, after the promulgation by the chinese president, Xi Jinping, a national security law in Hong Kong.
The act is accused by his detractors of being an attempt to muzzle the opposition in Hong Kong. It provides that chinese justice is competent for the “serious” security offences, and sentenced to life imprisonment for crimes against national security.
“In accordance with the instructions of the president Trump, we will eliminate exemptions policies that grant Hong Kong a different treatment and special, with a few exceptions,” said Mr. Pompeo.
At the end of may, Washington had already hit hard by revoking the trade status from preferential to Hong Kong.
At the united nations, 27 States, including France and Japan, have prompted China to re-examine the law that “threat”, according to them, the freedoms in the autonomous territory.
