Wednesday evening, in Gignac, nearly 250 people took part in the rally against the extreme right. Supported by a left-wing coalition as part of the new Popular Front, Sébastien Rome, outgoing deputy (LFI) for the 4th constituency, officially launched the legislative campaign on the ground.
In the heart of Hérault, the troops of the Popular Front are galvanized. Wednesday evening, after an hour and a half of speeches, many left Gignac, jitters in hand, to carry the word of the left-wing rally to the four corners of the constituency*. A few days before the legislative elections that no one expected, the outgoing deputy (LFI) of the 4th circo, Sébastien Rome, supported by a large coalition of left-wing parties and organizations (including the PCF, EELV, PS, Nouvelle Donne, the CGT, la Libre Pensée…), confirmed on the ground its commitment to the battle.
"We can make this moment historic"
"We're not going to hide it: Sunday evening, night fell on the land of lights", formulated the parliamentarian. Leading figure of the movement against the extreme right in the territory, he completed, a few minutes later, to bravos, that "the fact that there are so many of us, in such a short time, is precious. When we are all gathered here, dawn breaks and we can make this moment historic. […] You want union, today we can once again carry the Popular Front with the real social progress that we all expect".
Unambiguous support
At his side, the local representatives of the PCF, Nouvelle Donne or EELV showed their support for the LFI Deputy. "Two years ago, we all united around the candidacy of Sébastien Rome to form the Nupes movement. Today, it is the ecological and social Popular Front. I am signing again because, for two years, Sébastien has done a fantastic job representing our territory in the National Assembly", particularly welcomed Élisabeth Jaune. Co-regional treasurer of the Les Écologues-EELV party, La Plaissanaise invited "all supporters of ecology" to join the movement beyond "particularities and own identities". The local representative of Nouvelle Donne was abundant, "I am delighted to see to what extent we know how to thwart Macron's traps. In 24 hours, a new Popular Front was formed… We joined our cousins from LFI, the PCF and many others to make our contribution which is, admittedly, a little different. But I am convinced that, even if we only have 70% in common, in our intentions, our life can change. And we are determined to change it. A concert of support, without any ambiguity, in which the PS will not yet have made its voice heard.
A new rally of the Popular Front will take place this Friday June 14 at 5:00 p.m. in front of the sub-prefecture of Lodève. The fourth district of Hérault extends from the borders of the Cévennes, to Ganges, to the Thau basin in Mèze, passing through the Pic Saint Loup, the Lodévois…
