De Villeneuve à La Grande-Motte, quelque 23 plages privées habillent le littoral montpelliérain. Chaque établissement propose un style différent pour que chaque vacancier trouve son bonheur.

The 23 huts which are scattered along the twenty kilometers of Montpellier's coastal coastline opened a few weeks ago. But now that the tourist period is in full swing, the private beaches popular with a certain clientele are taken by storm.

Changing weather and displaced concessions

Despite poor weather since opening, the establishments hope to make up for a somewhat unstable start to the season in July and August due to climatic hazards. &ldquo ;The weather has been ticking since May”, we hear on most beaches. “But we shouldn't complain, we're still here.”

Between the concessions which are not always renewed or which will no longer be renewed in the future, those which have been moved to protect the environment and the erosion of the coastline which is gradually eating away at the coast with the advance of the sea, the concern is palpable among the hut owners.

Three outsourced establishments

This year, à La Grande-Motte, there are no longer any private beaches on the sand of the Grand Travers, the area being classified as a 'remarkable space'.

Justice has decided so a little at the last moment: L’Effet Mer, la Paillote Bambou and La Voile Bleue, three establishments established for more than 25 years have not been ;té authorized é take a seat.

A “temporary” was é found to find them a place on the beach. An emergency arrangement but not satisfactory enough given the parking problems caused, the situation in an urban environment and a little on top of each other, their access and the competition. A relocation that the owners and the mayor hope will be temporary.

But that doesn’t stop you from enjoying this season. Especially since each private beach has its trademark and its specificity. A quick overview with those who bring them to life and who bring them to life, including Stéphane on the Plage des Lézards, Kamilia for the Carré Mer, Gaëtan for the Paillotte Sauvage, Bernard for the Plagette and Antoine for Côté Sud.
