Pro D2: in Béziers which moves to Montauban, everything is also a question of management

The matches, the players, the infirmary, the season… The ASBH staff who are going to Montauban this Friday, February 9, take into account multiple parameters to perform.

Love being, of course, not on the meadows where the oval reigns supreme, the infirmaries of rugby clubs are rarely empty. Béziers, who travels to Montauban this Friday, cannot escape it. On January 26, when Agen visited, it was the hooker Yvann Lalevée, victim of a ruptured Achilles tendon, who paid the high price and will remain away from the land for many months. In short, beyond the matches and their stakes, like all their peers, the Béziers staff must manage a lot of parameters.

Individual management within the collective

This season precisely, in terms of management, ASBH has mastered its subject. The result, in particular of collective work on all levels: "Every Monday, at 7:15 a.m., we meet to take stock of the injuries and the injured, explains Benjamin Bagate, the sports director of ASBH. An inventory is also carried out on a daily basis. In fact, there is constant consultation between the athlete, the medical staff and the physical trainers." Who are omnipresent with the team and players over whom they watch like milk on fire: "They work with GPS collecting data allowing us to know the state of fitness of each person, specifies Benjamin Bagate. If they see, for example, that a player is tired, they warn Pierre Caillet, the coach, who makes the decision to make him play at walking pace. There is individual management in the collective. Only play those who are 100% of their means. We do with the forces in the presence of the moment. Only the most competitive are on the field and we don't let go of any matches."

Participative management

During meetings, it is up to the game leaders to manage the duel. In terms of strategy, Béziers ensures, demonstrating a very good ability to adapt to adversaries: "The group of leaders decides on the strategy to adopt during the week, applies it on the day of the meeting and makes decisions at key moments,  notes the sports director. Pierre Caillet relies on participatory management. All these decisions are collegial, knowing that they are the &nbsp ;players who are on the field, not us."

It also remains to manage the team's mentality and keep it under pressure throughout the games. A drop in speed or excess confidence can be detrimental. Here too, the ASBH staff draw the quintessence of their group. "One of our strengths is not to calculate and to play all the matches to win them, assures the technician. Each block, challenges are set for players with specific objectives during matches. Players challenge each other and want to perform."

This will be the case in Montauban, where Benjamin Bagate believes that it will be necessary to be "ambitious, humble and manage the game well& quot;. The Biterrois know how to do it.

À Béziers, first tenure for the young Paul Alquier, trained in at the club, which will soon celebrate its 25th anniversary (February 27). There are three additional changes from the starting fifteen from two weeks ago, face to face.
